Overnight Yacht Charter in Phuket: What to Expect on a Multi-Day Trip

An overnight yacht charter is a very different experience from a day trip. You are not simply adding a few extra hours at sea. The yacht becomes your home for the journey: you wake up near the water, enjoy more time at each stop and explore at a pace that does not have to fit into a single day.

The best way to plan a multi-day trip is to start with the experience you want - not with a list of islands. Think about how many nights you have, how much time you would like to spend sailing and what matters most to your group: swimming, quiet anchorages, scenery, meals on board or simply having more time together.

Choose a yacht by its overnight capacity

A yacht’s daytime guest capacity is not the same as its overnight capacity. A boat may have room for a large group during a day charter but a smaller number of guests for sleeping on board.

For example, the website lists the Bali Catspace Siva for up to 8 overnight guests, with 4 cabins and 4 bathrooms. The Lagoon 42 Silver Moon is listed for up to 6 overnight guests, with 3 cabins and 3 bathrooms. These figures differ by yacht, so check the overnight capacity of the specific boat you are considering.

Also look at the cabin and bathroom layout. Ask how the sleeping arrangements work for your group, especially if you are travelling with children or want a particular level of privacy. A couple, a family and a group of friends may prefer different layouts even if they are within the yacht’s maximum capacity.

Plan the route around the time you have

One night on board can make a nearby destination feel more relaxed: there is less pressure to return to Phuket at the end of the same day. With several nights, a wider range of routes may be possible, depending on the yacht, departure marina, sea conditions and the distances involved.

A good itinerary leaves room to enjoy the journey. Trying to include too many stops can turn a multi-day charter into a series of short visits. It is usually better to choose a few priorities and allow time for swimming, meals and quiet moments on deck.

The route should be discussed with the captain before departure. The captain can advise how much sailing a plan involves and whether the proposed stops make sense for your dates and yacht. Weather and sea conditions may also affect the itinerary. If a change is needed for safety, the route may be adjusted.

What happens during the day and at night

A typical day on a multi-day charter includes time underway, stops for swimming or exploring, meals and time to relax on board. The exact rhythm depends on the route and your group. Some guests want an active schedule; others would rather spend longer in one quiet bay.

At night, the yacht usually stays at anchor or in an agreed marina or harbour. An overnight charter does not automatically mean sailing through the night. Confirm the planned passages, overnight locations and timings with the team before booking.

Comfort details also vary between yachts. If air-conditioning or other electrical equipment at night matters to you, ask how it works on the specific boat and whether any usage limits or additional charges apply. It is better to clarify this while planning than to assume every yacht offers the same setup.

Meals and provisions on a longer trip

Do not assume that everything included in a day charter automatically covers every meal of a multi-day trip. Ask what is included for your dates and how breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and drinks will be arranged.

If you have dietary requirements, allergies or strong preferences, share them before departure. A private chef or special menu may be available on request, depending on the yacht and arrangement.

The team can then confirm the menu, provisioning plan and any extra costs in advance.

It is also useful to tell the crew how your group likes to spend the day. Some guests prefer a leisurely lunch on board; others want to spend more time ashore or in the water. A little planning helps the meals fit naturally into the trip.

What to bring

Cabin storage is more limited than in a hotel room, so pack thoughtfully. A compact soft bag is generally easier to manage on board than bulky luggage. Bring swimwear, light clothing, sun protection, any personal medication and the chargers you need.

Before departure, confirm what towels, toiletries and other essentials are already provided on your yacht. If you are unsure about luggage size or storage, ask the team before you travel to the marina.

Questions to ask before booking

Before confirming a multi-day charter, make sure you know:

A clear written quotation should describe the arrangement for your particular yacht and dates. For a general explanation of charter inclusions and extra costs, see our guide to what is included in a private yacht charter in Phuket.

Make the yacht part of the holiday

A multi-day charter gives you more than extra time between islands. It lets you settle into life on board: breakfast with the sea around you, an afternoon swim when the conditions are right and an evening without needing to return to shore.

The right yacht and route depend on your group, the number of nights and the kind of trip you want. Tell us your dates, guest count and priorities, and the Star Sailing Club team can help you choose a suitable yacht and plan the details before you book.
