Since 1974 one skinny limestone needle has been Thailand's most photographed rock. Ko Ta Pu - the James Bond rock of Khao Phing Kan - still earns the trip: a twenty-metre spike balancing on a base the sea has almost eaten away.
The island sits deep in Phang Nga Bay, so the journey there is half the show - carved karsts, cave mouths and mangrove channels all the way, with flat, protected water underneath you.
